Hunger Games

I've heard a lot about the book Hunger Games and it came highly recommended... so I read it... in two days. Instead of the TV after the kids went to bed I just read. It was a nice change. I have a confession: I haven't read a "real" book in so many years, that I can't even remember the last book I read. Progress in 2010 is happening! WOot!
So back to the book. I couldn't put it down. I wanted to see what happened next. Nice to find books like that. Last night I just read until I was done. But when I was done, I was left.... disappointed. The book was great up until the last chapter. All I could think was, "This main character is pretty dumb for how smart she is..." Have you read the book? Did you feel the same? Does the next book "fix" things? Or is it just another book about all new characters?
I felt the same way after I watched the first season of 24. The very last episode shows the wife/mother get killed after all she'd been through. It made me so mad that I didn't watch another episode/season. I had emotionally invested time in a non existent character that betrayed me... and I was done. Silly... I know.
Anyway... I've already marked one think off my resolution list. I wanted to read one "real" book... and I did... before the end of January. Maybe I'll change my goal to be one a month. What's next? Not sure... suggestions? Next book in series? Do I dare start the Twilight series? I haven't read any or seen the movies... same with Harry Potter... Just didn't care that much. Are they worth the time? Ideas?

I have them all. So, if you would like you can come by and decide, or I can bring the next book in the Hunger Game series.

I am a little annoyed with the girl in Hunger Games as well. She is really naive and I sit there thinking, "Um, isn't it obvious?" Then I start to get into this weird inner monologue about how just because something is obvious to me doesn't mean that everyone would see what I see...then I remind myself that it's just a book, and I did enjoy reading the story. :)

I need to read "The Hunger Games", because it seems everybody's reading them. Harry Potter is definitely worth the read, but the first 3 books are pretty elementary. Twilight...I read them all, and the plot was interesting but I didn't care for the writing style at all.

twilight... flashback to high school. made it through one... but didn't read the rest. i don't get the way people are wild about it. the movies are a hoot for the cult classic effect. i vote the movies over the books cuz they don't suck as much time out of your life. (pardon the pun.)

That's funny, I think you're the only person I know who hasn't read both Harry Potter or Twilight either. Sometimes I think I avoid things just because they're trendy. I'll read those books when I'm good and ready and not when everyone else is! :) I'm waiting for the Hunger Games sequel so we'll see if it finishes the story well.
